Periscopes… they’re not just for submarines anymore! Now you can be the biggest peeping tom in the whole neighborhood with your very own homebuild periscope you can build in your own backyard using these vintage diy plans. Snoop on your neighbors like snoop doggy dog… Just a couple of mirrors, some scrap lumber and this instant free plan download gets you started.

Periscope which a boy can make is useful for home and business surveillance. Mention of periscopes were quite common in the reports from European battle fields in WWII; such a device in a simple
form can be made easily by boys who have fair skill with tools. The illustration above shows a periscope which may
be used for play, and has other practical uses as well. In a store or other place where a person on duty cannot
watch all parts of the establishment, such a device is convenient in that it will reflect persons entering the door.
As a toy or for experimental purposes
the periscope shown has many possibilities
and will appeal to youngsters.

Wow can you really turn a tractor into a forklift? Check out these great vintage plans to find out how to build this unique attachment yourself for pennies on the dollar!

An easy-to-assemble fork lift adds a lot of muscle to any yard tractor, letting you hoist, load, and stack bulky items that would otherwise be backbreakers.

Two handles, within easy reach at the top of the hood control the rigs dual action. One pivots the entire frame to tilt the forks down(for picking up a load) or up(for carrying it).

The other is a handle on an inexpensive winch, for wing in a cable that passes over 2 pulleys and ties into the fork plate. Skate wheels guide this plate up a channeled frame.

When the tractor is needed for other uses, the lift is easily detached by removal of 3 to 5 bolts.

Just in case the globe doesn’t warm in time for next winter, you can enjoy the big snows the old fashioned way… by riding down the hills on your very own homemade toboggan just like great granddad did… and getting a splinter in your rear! And in case it crashes you can always use the wood to build a nice warm fire. SURGEON GENERALS WARNING: This design is not suitable for a 90 mph Olympic luge track.

ESSENTIALS of a good toboggan,
whether for coasting or use in
transportation, are strength and lightness,
and when it is to be made in the
home shop, the construction must be
simple. That shown in the illustration,
and detailed in the working sketches,
was designed to meet these requirements.
The materials for the toboggan
proper and the forms over which it is
bent, may be obtained at small expense.
Smoothness of finished surface, freedom
from tendency to splinter, and
ability to stand up under abuse being
requisite qualities in the wood used to
make a toboggan, three varieties may
be mentioned in their order of merit:
hickory, birch, and oak. Birch is softer
than hickory and easily splintered, but
acquires an excellent polish on the
bottom. Oak stands bending well, but
does not become as smooth on the
running surface as close-grained woods.
Do not use quarter-sawed oak because
of the cross-grain flakes in its structure.
While the best toboggan is made of
a single board, both the securing of
material and its construction are rather
difficult. Narrow strips are easily bent
to shape, but do not make a durable
article. A toboggan made of four
boards is practical.

One of the great advantages of a
radial-arm saw is the ease with
which you can make cuts on long pieces
of material. But this feature is like a
seed: You must nurture it to make it
wholly operational. You must provide a
long enough platform for work support.
Contractors, who use machines outdoors
and have no space limitations, do this by
adding roller-type extensions. It’s then no
chore to square off the end of two-by
stock 20′ or more long. Though this
example may seem extreme, the fact is
that you need a similar setup on your
radial-arm saw even if the lengths you
ordinarily work with are 8′ or less.
Two solutions are offered here. Both extensions
are permanently attached to the
saw, but the roller extension can
be knocked down by removing a
few screws, and the hinged extension
flips down when not in use,
taking little more room than the
saw itself.

Yo check out this sleek mini-bike with the art deco style that
you can build in your garage in just 1 weekend. For one-third the price of a commercial unit you can build this 60-plus miles per
gallon motor scooter.

Made mostly out of scrap angle iron you can salvage
off old bed frames, the Super Scooter can be constructed by anyone who has access to the average number of metal-working
tools. The power Unit in the original is a
1½-hp. Briggs & Stratton Series “N” aircooled
gasoline engine. This was considered
to be sufficient power for Jacksonville. Florida,
its home, because that area is so flat that
hill-climbing ability isn’t required. For hilly
country—or if you like to “get away” with a
zoom—we suggest you install the larger
Series “B” Briggs & Stratton power plant or
an engine of comparable size. The interior of
the Super Scooter is sufficiently large to
permit easy mounting of the bulkiest ¾ hp
engines on the market.
Although somewhat larger than the popular
commercial units, you’ll find the Super
Scooter as easy to ride as it is to build. The
leatherette upholstered seat and sprung
wheels will make riding soft while the rear
compartment will easily accommodate a fair
sized assortment of groceries, picnic lunch,
tools or the like. And don’t forget the 60 plus
miles to the gallon!

If you’re a skin diver of any experience you know that an electric powered sport submarine is great for underwater exploration.
Seated in such a vehicle, you can cover more bottom simply because you do not expend your energy in swimming and your precious air can be made to last much longer. Also, it’s great fun to operate.

In building the sub, our original intention was to make it of fiberglass
with a Plyfoam core. A wet sub (one that fills with water and is used
with an aqualung) requires a certain amount of flotation and we felt
the Plyfoam would be ideal. Sold by Plyfoam, Inc., E. Beth page Rd.,
Plainview, L.I., N.Y., it is unique in that it is thermoplastic; that is, when heated to about 180*F, it can be shaped to any mold. Then when it cools it retains the form of the mold and its strength as well. With a layer of fiberglass bonded to each side, it becomes strong indeed.
We planned a wooden mold on which we would lay up a quarter-in,
shell of Plyfoam. Then we would cover the Plyfoam with fiberglass,
remove it from the mold and apply another layer of fiberglass on the
inside. Doing it twice would give us the two halves of our hull.
